⚡️ Lightning Round
- Pose a statement or question.
- Ask
- Give students 2 minutes to share their ideas in pairs on a topic.
- After the signal: switch pairs!
- Decide yourself how many rounds suit your statement.
- Finish with an open question where students can express their thought process. Or come up with other processing assignments (election campaign, story, presentation, poster, debate) where students can demonstrate what they have learned after the discussions.
With Lightning Round, you create a lesson full of energy and lots of input in a short time.

Word cloud with categories
Let the students silently write down all the words that come to mind in three minutes. The different categories help channel their thoughts and prevent them from getting stuck on a single line of thinking.
The timer encourages focus, energy, and equality: everyone works actively within the same time frame, keeping the activity short, lively, and purposeful.
As the time visibly counts down on the screen, engagement is heightened and the awareness of time becomes concrete.
Tip: Emphasise that it is not a competition; the time should not create performance pressure.
This method is interesting for all subjects.

Mini Mission
This example is, of course, a creative, humorous variant of a very strong didactic teaching method.
Set a timer for 5 minutes for a short challenge: “Come up with one (or more) solutions to this problem in 5 minutes.”
Perfect for critical thinking and collaboration.
Sharing Hugs
The toddlers have left all the cuddly toys on the playground.
There are 24 cuddly toys: 6 rabbits, 7 bears, 9 elephants, and 2 unicorns.
The school has 3 toddler groups.
How many cuddly toys does each group get if they are divided equally?
Each group wants to receive exactly the same cuddly toys - the same number of each animal. Which animals will then be left behind
on the playground?

Stop the clock!
Have students complete a task while the timer counts down. Who finishes on time?
Afterwards, don't discuss who "won", but rather how they used their time.

Write an Adventure Story
All students grab a pen and paper!
Let the students start writing their own adventure stories.
Every minute, open a hotspot with a new word.
The students must immediately incorporate that word into their stories.
The eight words are: map, chest, key, bridge, friend, dragon, sword, castle.
You decide the order in which the hotspots are opened.
This and the next slide can be adapted for different genres and age groups.

Write an Adventure Story
This version uses a spinner with 50 words - if you prefer to leave it to chance!
You could use this with a specific word class like adjectives or adverbs for example.
Again this is adaptable to different ages and genres.
