Antecedent: The noun or noun phrase that a relative pronoun refers to.

Restrictive: Specifies the antecedent.
Nonrestrictive: Provides extra information.

The Concept of an Antecedent
The noun or noun phrase that a relative pronoun refers to.
Some examples of these can be:
Vote with the party that is right.
My mother was very kind to me, which made me love her dearly.

Non restrictive sentences
This is a form which simply adds more information to the sentence.
You can remove this information without changing the meaning sentence itself:
My previous house,
which was quite small
, was in Coventry.
I did well in chemistry,
which was always my favorite subject
.
