Prefixes and Suffixes 

Prefix en Suffix zijn letters die je toevoegt voor (prefix) of na (suffix) een woord. Deze toevoegingen veranderen de betekenis van het woord. 

Prefixes

Non– / un– / im– / il– / in– / ir– / dis- deze geven allemaal de tegenovergestelde betekenis aan een woord

Responsible - Irresponsible 

Verantwoordelijk - Onverantwoordelijk

Re- betekent opnieuw, terug of in reactie tot wanneer het toegevoegd is aan het begin van een woord.  

turn, visit, play, act

return, revisit, replay, react 

Mis– wordt gebruikt om een negatieve betekenis te geven als het aan het begin van het woord toegevoegd is.  Understand - Misunderstand

Dis– wordt gebruikt voor een negatieve betekenis of het tegenovergestelde aan het begin van het woord. Like - Dislike

Prefixes and Suffixes 

Suffixes

–er: Deze uitgang maakt een vergelijking. Het wordt ook gebruikt voor een persoon of ding dat een actie doet. slow – slower / teach – teacher

–ness wordt gebruikt om een adverb/adjective (bijwoord/bijvoeglijk naamwoord) in een zelfstandig naamwoord te veranderen.  kind - kindness /  happy - happiness 

Prefix and Suffix 

–ing achter een woord wordt gebruikt voor een product, materiaal of een werkwoord wat in een zelfstandig naamwoord gezet wordt. 

paint - painting 

 –ment toevoegen achter een woord veranderd een werkwoord ook in een zelfstandig naamwoord.

Linking words

We gebruiken linking words om zinnen aan elkaar te verbinden.
Linking words zijn bijvoorbeeld: and, but, because.

Ieder linking word heeft een andere betekenis. Aan het linking word kun je zien hoe de twee zinnen met elkaar in verbinding staan.
