Hormones

Besides impulses, our body also sends out chemicals to communicate. These often work longer, and can ''talk'' to different organs at the same time. These chemicals are called hormones. The endocrine system consists of parts that make these hormones, glands.

Example: Adrenalin.

Your adrenal glands excrete adrenaline when your body thinks it is in danger. This results in dilated blood vessels, increased heart rate and more blood flowing to your muscles. 

Glucose level

There is always glucose in our, this amount can't be too high or too low. 

On the pancreas you can find the islets of Langerhans. They are responsible to make sure this level stays in check. When you have just eaten, these islets make insulin, converting glucose into glycogen. This can be stored outside your blood and into your body.

When there is too little glucose in your blood, the islets make glucagon, converting glycogen back into glucose.
