The two scenarios have very different target audiences
Have a think who your audience is for a moment and what styles, colours fonts and images you think will be appropriate for that audience

Use Canva "elements" to find almost everything you need
Use

or
pexels
to source things you cannot get in canva
Use Canva to make banner elements if you are not using starter templates
Stay consistent and remember your audience!
