Wild Peter
In 1724, a wild child was discovered in Germany, walking around in the woods without clothes. He was estimated to be about twelve years old and called him Wild Peter. He moved like a four-legged animal and caught birds which he took apart and ate. Peter was admitted to the royal court of King George I in England, where he was cared for by Dr. Arbuthnot. Dr. Arbuthnot was eager to teach the boy to speak, but Peter could only produce a sort of gibberish. The only words he could say were 'ki scho' (king George) and 'qui ca' (queen Caroline). Furthermore, he never learned to talk. He died in 1785.

IMPORTANT SOCIALIZING INSTITUTIONS

Slide 11 - Diapositive

Education - school
From the age of four to about the age of twenty-one, you spend a large part of your time at school. The curriculum and the teachers therefore play a major role in your education.

Family and friends

You will automatically adopt the behavior of the people you interact with most. Until puberty, these are mainly your parents, brothers or sisters. After that, your friends and classmates will have more influence on you.

The media
Social media, television or music have a great influence on how you think about things, especially during puberty. Music clips, news, trends and celebrities come to you every day via your phone, tablet or television and can thus determine your appearance or opinion.

Government
You follow the rules drawn up by the Dutch government. The Prime Minister sometimes speaks directly to the people, the police are there to speak to you or help you.
The government interferes with education by imposing requirements on the knowledge you must have to pass your final exams.
