• Korea was occupied by Japan since 1910
• After WWII the country was split  into: 

• North Korea: communist, supported by the Sovjet Union

• South Korea: capitalist, supported by the United States
  

• Division lies on the 38th Parallel

What does slickyboy mean?

slang term used by american servicemen occupying Korea. refers to Korean people who make their living stealing items from GI's and selling them for cash money.

Originally, GI stood for “Galvanized Iron”, the primary material used to make military items, i.e., buckets. However, as the military grew and evolved over time, GI took on multiple meanings, including “Government Issue”, “General Issue”, and even “Ground Infantry”.
