Significance of cities
Growth of trade > cities became richer.
They wanted more self-governance > city rights.

Count of Holland and Zeeland (the Netherlands had regions it was not a united country).
Peasants :) > he gave swamp that they could turn into farmland (ontginnen).
Nobles felt like they were losing power. They didn't like Floris.

Fighting for power
West-Frisians couldn't be conquered. He gave the local peasants many privileges. Landlords were mad.
Floris worked together with cities and peasants against landlords and nobles.
1296: he was captured by landlords and imprisoned in the Muiderslot.
They later tried to move him, but he was killed.
