Use of Past Simple
When something happened in the past and you know when:
  • yesterday
  • a week ago
  • last summer
  • in 2020 (year, month etc.)

Use of Past Simple: some examples
We saw this film last night. 
In 2019 she spent her summer holiday in Spain.
Last Monday we had a difficult test.
When I was a child I lived in Poland.

How to form the Past Simple
met -ed (talked, walked, finished, worked)

  • have/ has + infinitive +ed
  • have/has+ 3rd form irregular verb
I/you/we/they have worked.
He/she/it has worked.
I/you/we/they have seen.
He/she/it has seen.

Use of Present Perfect
  • When something happened in the past and it is still going on:
They have lived in Delft for ten years. (and still live there)
  • When something happened in the past and you have to deal with the result:
I can’t walk. I have broken my leg.
  • When you don't know when something happened exactly. 
I have gone to Italy many times.
  • To talk about experience:
I have seen this film twice. 
Or: I have never seen this film.

Use at least three verbs in Past Simple and three verbs in Present Perfect.
