What is in a movie?

There are many things to consider when making a movie... Things we don't always think about when watching it.

Imagine you're a famous movie critic. What would you talk about when reviewing a movie or series?

Let's take a look at four of the most important aspects of film:

Plot

Characters

Genre

Theme

Plot

The plot of a movie is a structured sequence of events that make up a story.

Characters

The characters are the ones who move the story forward. There are some things we have to think about when talking about characters:

• Appearance
• Character traits
• Their role in the story

There are two important kinds of characters:

• Protagonist
• Antagonist

Genre

The genre tells us what kind of movie we're watching. Will it scare us, make us laugh or get us emotional?

Theme

Theme is the idea or purpose behind a movie. A writer should make sure everything that happens in the movie supports its theme. 

Examples of themes:

• Love
• Death
• Family/friendship
• Coming of age
• Good vs evil
