Before reading:

- prepare for a text: exploring (verkennend lezen)

- look at the title, picture and possible info at the bottom

- what do you already know about the text's topic?

- what type of text is it?

- read the questions, and possible instructions

- try to figure out what the text will be about.

--> Find out most important information:  SKIMMING (reading globally)

While reading:

- Look for specific information in the text

- Look for distinct words such as numbers, capital letters

- Find proof in the text for the answer to the question

- Pay attention to linking words: because, however, but, and, still, moreover, therefore, ...

--> We call this SCANNING (reading intently)

A text usually consists of different paragraphs. How do they usually make up a text's structure (3 parts)?

After reading

- check whether you have found proof in the text for every answer

- think about how you can link this text to your daily life

- do not leave blanks!
