• Onbekende woorden?           

          Kijk naar de rest van de context om te kijken of je het dan  raadt.

           Heb je ondanks de onbekende woorden een idee over de hoofdgedachte?

           Zo niet, zoek het dan even op.

Plural (meervoud)

First I'm going to test what you already know. 

Give the plural form of these words:
box
tomato

Give the plural form of these words:
nurse
reply

Give the plural form of these words:
half
wish

Give the plural form of these words:
book
chief

Plural nouns 

The regular way of making a noun(znw) plural  

is by adding -s to the word. NEVER use 's to make a word plural!

Examples:

• Books
• Camaras
• Kiwis
• Tables 

Plural with -es

When a noun ends with a hissing sound you add -es

             -s, -sh, -ch, -x 

For example:

• buses
• dishes
• branches
• boxes

Exception!!

When -ch is pronounced like ''k'' only add -s:

• Stomachs

Nouns ending in -y

When the noun ends in a consonant(medeklinker) +y,

The ''y'' changes to ''ie'' to make it plural. 

For example:

• reply              replies
• baby              babies
• spy                 spies

If not, you add +s

• key          keys
• boy          boys
• toy           toys

Nouns ending in -o

There are two ways to make these plural:

Unfortunately there is no clear rule when to use what.

Most of the times you use +s

Nouns ending in -f

The following nouns dat end in -f have plurals with -ves:

• calf              calves
• half              halves
• knife           knives
• leaf              leaves
• life                lives

Others are with the regular form +s like

• loaf            loaves
• shelf          shelves
• thief          thieves
• wife           wives
• wolf           wolves

roof          roofs

chief      chiefs
