The United States way to vote on elections is interesting. Let's show you how the United States does it and demonstrate how this works.

Every row will become a "state", there are 3 rows in the class so we will have 3 states.
You will all be able to vote individually and your votes are counted inside your state.
It's 2016, and the results are in.

In the United States, there are 2 parties that we all have probably heard of.
The left-wing Democratic party and the right-wing Republican party. But there are actually more than 2, surprisingly.

Here are the 3 next big contenders for the United States president.

The contrasting Libertarian party, Green Party, similar to Groenlinks and the religious conservative Constitution party.

They might be the next biggest parties in the United States, but in reality they  make less than a small irrelevant amount of national popularity votes.

These parties are the only ones who are actually on more than 15 of the states presidential ballots.

The US systems are broken.

They prevent the people from being properly represented in the higher levels of government. Even if we have more major parties, the party that would rule would usually be the one that isn't favored by the majority of the people.

For example, the Dutch voting system prevents this, by requiring the winners to form a coalition with other parties to achieve a majority if they don't have a majority with themselves. This doesn't happen in the United States because of the first past the post system.
