Wanneer gebruiken we to be going to + hele werkwoord:

• Als het plan er al was vóór het gesprek:

We've finally decided. We are going to go to France this summer.

• Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een aanwijzing:

Look at those dark clouds. It's going to rain.

Wanneer gebruiken we will:

• Als het plan ontstaat tijdens het gesprek:

There's no more bread. - Really? I'll go and buy some.

• Bij een voorspelling die gebaseerd is op een mening:

He won't be on time. He's always late.

Will gebruik je bij alle personen.

Shall alleen bij vraagzinnen met I of we. 

• Shall wordt vooral gebruikt om te vragen naar een mening, bij een suggestie of om iets aan te bieden:
