Design your lesson (part 2)

Ready to use this lesson plan? Use the button below to save a copy of this lesson plan in your account. After doing so, you will be able to modify the lessons as you wish.

What you'll learn: The continuation of designing your lesson; how to work with text and imagery in your lesson, the design of interactive components, size and alignment.
Time required: 10 minutes.

ANIMATE TEXT TO FLY IN

As mentioned earlier, too much text on a slide can be confusing. One solution is to animate your text to fly in.

To do this, click on the magic wand button. Read this article to learn how to animate text.

using hotspots

A slide filled with images can also become overwhelming. A handy solution are LessonUp's Hotspots (clickable icons containing imagery, text, or more). You can link a hotspot to an image, making it appear and collapse as needed. Read more about using hotspots in your lesson.

Tip: hotspots are great for adding extra explanations to your slide. Check here to see how it works.

TEXT BOXES

Within text boxes (via +Component), you have more layout possibilities than within the standard text boxes, for example, those that appear while using an interactive component to type in your question. Inside a text box, you can adjust the text's position and its background colour.
You can simply place the text box over the standard one to personalise your lesson. So, use your own text box more often instead of the standard one to make your lesson truly unique.

SIZE AND ALIGNMENT

Size and alignment are crucial in your text boxes, or within your drag-and-drop components in a drag-and-drop question. Different sizes and alignments can cause confusion within your slide.

On the left slide, you can see that the drag components and drop targets are not of the same size. Additionally, the drag components don't fit into the drop targets, and the text is not aligned.

On the right slide, you can see that the drag components and drop targets are of the same size. Furthermore, the text is aligned. Tip: copy and paste the drag components and drop targets so that they are exactly of the same size. Now you only need to adjust the text and colour of the copied ones.
LessonUp has a built-in alignment function. When you want to align text boxes or images, you'll see red lines appear on your slide to assist you.

INSPIRATION

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. You can draw inspiration from:

🧑‍🎓 CONTINUE TO THE NEXT MODULE: "CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT"

You now know how to animate text and imagery on your slide, how to adjust the formatting of titles in interactive questions, and how to properly align your text boxes. Good luck with using these tips in your next lesson!

The next module is about classroom management and how you can use LessonUp to support it.
