THE INTERACTIVE QUESTIOns

In a LessonUp lesson, you can easily add interactive questions to actively engage your students during your lessons. Below, we explain all interactive elements along with a short instructional video.

QUIZ QUESTION

With a quiz question during a classroom lesson, you can quickly assess students by using a game-like element. The nature of a quiz question is often to assess student understanding. Quiz questions can be used throughout the entire lesson: as a lesson starter to catch pupils' interest, to assess knowledge retention, or to evaluate learning outcomes.

In the video, Joy explains how you can use a quiz question in your LessonUp lesson.

Mind Map

The mind map in LessonUp is primarily used to activate students' prior knowledge. By enquiring about (and providing feedback on) prior knowledge, the new learning material becomes deeply engrained.

Prior knowledge is, in a sense, placed in the students' 'working memory' alongside new information (Ausubel, 1968).

OPEN QUESTION

An open question in LessonUp offers many possibilities for both the question-maker and the respondent. While a quiz question is usually great to briefly assess specific knowledge retention, an open question allows for more comprehensive exploration.

Regardless of whether the question is designed to prompt knowledge or to provide insights, students can decide to give very detailed answers.

PHOTO QUESTION

With the interactive component Photo Question, you can ask students to upload one or multiple photos and/or (screen) images in their LessonUp area. They could be both newly taken photos, or images already stored in their devices. This way, students can submit an assignment or homework. Creating a photo question works just the same as creating an open question.

DRAG-AND-DROP QUESTION

In addition to the quiz, open question, and mind map, you can enhance your lessons further by incorporating additional interaction between the learning material and your students by using a drag-and-drop question.
With drag-and-drop questions, students can independently or collectively move elements to the correct position within a LessonUp lesson.
This results in a range of instructional approaches, including creating combinations, practicing and assessing topographical knowledge, and engaging with timelines.

INTERACTIVE VIDEO

With the interactive video, you can ask questions or display information during your lesson, whether it's in a classroom setting or for individual study. All LessonUp's interactive elements can be integrated into a YouTube or Vimeo video. Additionally, you can also add extra information into a video. This way, students watch videos more attentively, leading to higher learning outcomes.

POLL

With the poll, you can question students with statements during your (in-person or remote) lesson. These statements don't have right or wrong answers; instead, they can be used to initiate discussions or gather opinions.
