أوجه القمر

Why Moon Phases Occur

تحدث المراحل بسبب تغير موضع القمر في مداره. يضيء الشمس أجزاء مختلفة من القمر، مرئية من الأرض.

New Moon

يحدث القمر الجديد عندما يكون القمر بين الأرض والشمس. الجانب المواجه للأرض لا يكون مضاءً.

Waxing Crescent

During Waxing Crescent, a small part of the Moon's right side is illuminated. It's visible after the New Moon.

First Quarter

The First Quarter phase shows half of the Moon's right side illuminated. It appears a week after the New Moon.

Waxing Gibbous

In Waxing Gibbous, more than half of the Moon's right side is illuminated. It occurs before the Full Moon.

Full Moon

The Full Moon occurs when the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun. The Moon's face is fully illuminated.

Waning Gibbous

After the Full Moon, the Waning Gibbous phase shows the left side illuminated, as the Moon moves away from fullness.

Last Quarter

In the Last Quarter, half of the Moon's left side is illuminated. It appears three weeks after the New Moon.

Waning Crescent

The Waning Crescent is the last phase before the New Moon. A small part of the left side is illuminated.

Interactive Activity: Moon Phases

Use a Moon phase simulator to identify and label each phase. Observe the Moon's changing appearance.

The Moon’s Orbit and Rotation

The Moon orbits Earth in about 27.3 days, and it rotates on its axis in the same time, showing the same face to Earth.

Moon Phases and Tides

The Moon's gravity affects Earth’s tides, with higher tides during New and Full Moons due to alignment with the Sun.
