If a singular subject is preceded by each and every ,the verb  should in the singular form .

  • A collective noun takes a singular verb.
  • Nouns ,like a pair of shoes ,a pair of scissors  etc,are taken as singular and they take a singular verb.
  • Use a singular verb with distances, periods of time, sums of money, etc., when considered as a unit.
