In this lesson you are going to watch and learn about commercial in the USA, look at coca-cola commercials and the differences between Europe and USA commercials

No more commericals about smoking

In the '50 it was completely normal to watch commercials about smoking, to promote smoking. 

These days you can't imagine that commercials like that are made.  Now the commercials are there to prevent people from smoking. 

Facts 

The USA spends over 200 Bilion Dollars on advertisments There is no other country on earth that spends this amount!

China in NO.2 in spending the most money on adds. 

Did you know? 

When you watch television in the USA you have also watched 24 minutes of commercials!! 

In the Netherlands this is 12 minutes. 

USA also works on your emotions and exaggerates a lot. Words like bigger-better-faster-more beautiful etc. 

In the Netherlands there are more facts and evidence in the commercials. 

Big Difference

There is a big difference in advertisment in the USA and Europe regarding medicines. 

In Europe you can't make an add to promote medicines. In the USA this is legal. 

Tell- Sell add 

We are going to read through the assignment that you have to do for English this week. 

You have to make a tell-sell (infomercial) commercial. You will learn about these commercials during lesson 2 BUT you can already think about a product together in your group. 

Lesson 2 : Tell- Sell 

A 'tell-sell' add is called an infomercial. 

They are non-stop on tv in the middle of the night.

Listen and watch carefully what you see in the next 2 informercials. Which words or sentences do you hear?

Make an Infomercial

Have a product that doesn't already exist. 

Make the viewer feel they can't live without this product.  Over the top!

Use words that will persuade the viewer to buy the product. 

Lesson 3 : Superbowl reclame + artiesten

100 milion vieuwers, best watched TV programma in USA

De commercials of the Superbowl are really expensive. 8 million dollar for half a minute of air time!!

Usually there are famous Americans in it. 

We are going to watch a couple of Superbowl commercials.
