Past Simple/ Past Continuous
Mike had an accident when he was driving.
Rick was sleeping when the teacher schouted at him.
My phone rang while I was playing on my guitar.
I jumped out of the closet to scare my dad while he was watching television.

Fill in:

Past Simple/ Past Continuous
1. Something was going on (=past continuous) and was interupted by something else (=past simple). 
- Mike had (p.s.) an accident while he was driving (p.c.).
- Rick was sleeping (p.c.) when the teacher shouted (p.s.) at him.

2. You can also use the past continuous when something was really annoying in the past. 
- Last year she was always coming to class late.

Past Continuous: was/were + verb+ing
Past Simple: verb-ed (2nd word of the irregular verbs)

Relative Clauses
People: Is that the man who ran away?
who
Animals, things, places: The car, which is new, belongs to Bob.
which
Instead of who/which if you need the that-sentence to understand the meaning of the sentence.
Dogs that were born after 2012 must be registered.
that
After a preposition (in, on, with, etc.)
Find someone with whom you feel comfortable.
Is this the key with which he opened the door?
whom or which
If something is from someone (possession)
Jane, whose mother is Irish, has red hair.
