What are the Goals?
  • The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)  are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all."
  • UNESCO Strives for each country's government and leaders to work towards these goals. Most countries tackle more than one goal at a time.

Education
Today, more than 262 million children and youth are out of school. Six out of ten are not acquiring basic literacy and numeracy after several years in school. 750 million adults are illiterate, which creates poverty and marginalization.

Education is a human right and a force for sustainable development and peace. Every goal which we want to achieve requires education to empower people with the knowledge, skills, and values to live in dignity, build their lives and contribute to their societies.

Goals in relation to Africa
Countries in Africa such as Ethiopia, Angola, and South Africa worked with UN Country Teams and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to provide support to create awareness about SDGs among government officers, private-sector workers, MPs, and the people of the country.

Goals in relation to Africa
Uganda was also claimed to be one of the first countries to develop its 2015/16-2019/20 national development plan in line with SDGs.
 It was estimated by its government that about 76% of the SDGs targets were reflected in the plan and were adapted to the national context. The UN Country Team was claimed to have supported the government to integrate the SDGs.
