Mike: "I am playing tennis right now."
Mike said he was playing tennis right then.
Luke: "I haven't seen it yet."
Luke said he hadn't seen it yet.
Rick: "I talked to Lisa yesterday."
Rick said he had talked to Lisa the day before ( the previous day).
Ann: "I can try to play tennis."
Ann said she could try to play tennis.
Suzy: "I will be a doctor next year."  
Suzy said she would be a doctor the following  year.
mum: "You must clean your room!"
My mum told me that I had to clean my room.

  • after say --> don't use an object
