Sometimes I don't eat for days because I believe that stimulates my brain in thinking clearly. My apartment is messy, it is filled with documents and just stuff, but I can always find what I am looking for.

The Art of Deduction
Deduction has everything to do with what you see.  Watch the YouTube video. Watch closely! 
Deduction:
the process of finding an answer by using what is already known to be true.
If you see footprints in the snow, and you know that the snow started falling after dark, deduction will tell you that somebody was here last night.
an opinion or solution reached by this process.
His missing jacket led me to the deduction that he had left.

Update - McFarlane's story
Yesterday afternoon Oldacre came to his office. McFarlane doesn't know him.
- asks McFarlane (lawyer) to write his will (testament)
- leaves everything he owns to McFarlane 
- says he knows McFarlane's parents - but McFarlane can't tell his parents
- McFarlane's clerk witnesses the signing of the draft of the will
- McFarlane has scraps of paper with notes to prove the story - looks like notes were written on a train.
- Oldacre leaves office & McFarlane sends telegram to his parents that he would be home late
- 20:30 gaat McFarlane naar huis Oldacre - they go to bedroom to look at documents from safe (open)
- they read documents and seal some into envelopes with wax seal
- McFarlane leaves and stays in hotel (midnight)
- in the morning he reads story in newspaper and goes to find Sherlock Holmes
