What is a civilization?
A civilization is a term used to refer to an advanced society at a particular time period in history. 

Before the first civilizations, there were hunter-gatherer societies

People in these societies travelled for food.

Advances in farming techniques caused food surplus: people did have to travel no more! 

People founded cities to live in, and focussed on other jobs such as building, trading and crafting

This Agricultural Revolution happend mostly near rivers, since the area is very fertile and usefull for transportation.
