The rule

Much gebruik je voor "niet telbare"  zelfstandige naamwoorden bv; money, sugar of information.
Many gebruik je voor "telbare zelfstandige naamwoorden 

bv; coins , books of friends

Much en many gebruik je alleen bij vragende- en ontkennende zinnen. 

Telbaar (countable nouns)

Ze kunnen enkelvoud of meervoud zijn 

a car / three cars

a dog / two dogs

an orange / three oranges

 a chair/ six chairs

Ontelbaar (uncountable nouns)

Ze kunnen alleen enkelvoudig zijn 

money / two moneys 

sand / two sand

sugar / two sugars

bread / two breads

In bevestigende zinnen wordt veel meestal vertaald met
a lot of 

Dat mag voor zowel telbare als ontelbare  zn woorden.
