  • Teacher: Lessons about London/the UK, the Royal family, sports/music/fashion/food/events, public transport in London, British pronunciation, education system

  • Students: Prepare London interviews

London interviews
Goal: Students prepare and conduct interviews with local Londoners about a a cultural topic of choice related to the UK or London and make a video of the interviews.
A Speaking/Listening grade will be given (counts 2x)

Final product notes & requirements
o Every group member asks at least 3 interview questions related to the topic of choice and reacts naturally to the answers.
o Interviewer (student) and/or interviewee (Londoner) should be visible on the video.  If the Londoner does not want to be filmed, just film yourself asking the questions
o Try to make it as engaging and fun to watch as possible.  Take some photos of things in London related to your topic and incorporate them in your video.  Be creative!
o Videos will be presented in class after the May vacation.
At school/in class (before London)
1. Several lessons about aspects of British culture
2. Form groups of 2-3 students
3. Each group picks a topic that will be used as the basis for the interviews in London (topic must be approved)
4. Investigate topic in class using different sources
5. Groups write at least 10 interview questions about the topic of choice (interview questions must be approved)
6. Practice interviews at school

In London
7. Groups carry out and record/film full interviews about the chosen topic with 2-3 (English-speaking) people in London during free time

Back at school/at home (after London)
8.  Edit the video material and turn in via Teams

Quick research: 5 minutes

  1. Pick a topic that interests you from the list on the right
  2. Quickly research something online related to that topic and find a minimum of two pieces of information
  3. Note this information and be ready to share an image and some text (in English) on the next slide
  4. You will share what you found with the class as well

Tip: search news articles, social media, YouTube, travel blogs, tourism,... websites to get started.
Possible topics: 

- food & drinks
- royalty and the Royal family
- diversity and demographics (“The world in one city” / “melting pot”)
- Typical London things (telephone booths, double decker buses, black cabs, etc.)
- architecture and famous landmarks
- religious history, role of the church in London life
- shopping, fashion, and lifestyle

...or anything else you can think of that interests you! Possible options include the music industry, London celebrities, history, football clubs, modern life, etc.
