- Whose means ‘van wie’ (‘wiens’, ‘wier’) or ‘waarvan’

E.g.: The boy whose icecream had fallen was crying.
- De jongen wiens ijsje was gevallen…
- De jongen van wie het ijsje was gevallen…

E.g.: The Italian house, whose name means ‘luck’, is 300 years old.
- Het Italiaanse huis, waarvan de naam ‘geluk’ betekent, is 300 jaar oud.

- Refers to people
- After a preposition (voorzetsel)


- E.g.: They are my best friends, some of whom have been coming here for years.

- Is sometimes used instead of who or which.
- Refers to people, animals and things.
- A ‘that sentence’ never between commas.

E.g.: The girl that/who made the blunder is my best friend.
