When Do We Use Past Simple?
We use the past simple for completed actions in the past. Example: 'I visited Paris last year.'
When Do We Use Present Perfect?
We use present perfect for actions that connect the past to now. Example: 'I have visited Paris.'
Key Differences
Present Perfect
Talks about finished past events. Uses time words like 'yesterday', 'last week', 'in 2010'.
Past Simple
Describes experiences or actions with present results. Uses words like 'ever', 'never', 'just', 'yet', 'already'.
Examples: Past Simple
He watched the film last night. They went to the museum in July.
Examples: Present Perfect
I have finished my homework. She has never travelled by train.
