Використання I'D RATHER

                             d' rather = would rather or PREFER використовується, коли ви віддаєте перевагу чомусь (наприклад, Patrick prefers staying friends with Spongebob to being intelligent 

– ​​Патрік вважає за краще дружити з Губкою Бобом, а не бути розумним). 

"Would rather" має різні конструкції. Вони залежить від підмета й значення речення.

Коли підмети у "Would rather" і в наступному присудку різні, ми використовуємо дещо інші конструкції:

Would rather + past tense (значення – теперішнє, майбутнє)

I'd rather Alex called me today.

I'd rather you didn't tell Joanne about this ( ~ If you didn't tell Joanne about this, it would be better)

Would rather + past perfect (значення – минуле)

I'd rather Juli hadn't taken my suitcase yesterday.

Конструкції з I'd better= I had better

I'd better do something = бажано щось зробити; якщо я цього не зроблю, може виникнути проблема чи небезпека:

I have to meet my husband in ten minutes. I'd better go now or I'll be late.

We'd better stop for petrol soon. The tank is almost empty.

You'd better do something = ви попереджаєте когось зробити щось:

You'd better come on time. You'd better not be late (or you'll miss the meeting)

I'd better not = заперечна форма структури:

Are you going out tonight? I'd better not. I've got a lot of work to do.

1) Коли підмет відноситься і до "Would rather", і до наступного присудка, ми використовуємо такі конструкції:

Would rather +  bare infinitive (значення – теперішнє, майбутнє)

I'd rather do my shopping tomorrow (~ I'd prefer to do my shopping tomorrow)

Would rather + perfect bare infinitive (значення – минуле)

I'd rather not have eaten that hamburger last night.

Would rather + bare infinitive + than (+ bare infinitive)

I'd rather watch a comedy than (watch) a horror.
