Ben is urged to read the Emancipation Proclamtion from the newspaper to the men in the prison.
Then in the spring the war breaks out.
Ben learns how to write and teaches others.
His mother gives him the coin.
It gives the men and Ben hope.
After weeks go by, Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation.
Ben is then sent to a slave prison.
The white peole being to flee, but Ben is left behind.
