In this lesson, you will learn how to:

- come up with joint arguments for or against prohibition of Fortnite among minors

- defend your position in a debate

Introductory questions (15 mins)

For you, what are some of the benefits and drawbacks of playing Fortnite? If you don't play Fortnite, just imagine what they could be.

Do you think the game is addictive? If you don't play Fortnite, try to answer still based what you have heard about the game.

Is Fortnite, or gaming in general, a distraction at your school?

What do you think about the violence in the game? Is it suitable for young people?

How do your parents feel about Fortnite or gaming in general? Do you think parents should set limits to gaming?

Preparation for debate (10 mins)

1. Choose sides: for or against prohibition of Fortnite for minors under 15

2. In groups of 4, think of arguments to promote your case

3. Agree as a group on a ranking of the arguments in order of importance

One person is target language monitor 

Debate! (15 mins)

1. From each group, one person steps forward or is appointed to join the main debate team. 

2. The two teams (for and against prohibition of Fortnite) debate each other.

3. The other students are the public and vote for the best debater of the class.

Round 1: opening statements (1 minute per side)
