What is Speed?

Speed is how fast an object is moving. It is calculated as the distance travelled divided by the time taken.

Measuring Time

Time is the duration taken to cover a distance. Common units are seconds, minutes, and hours.

The Speed Formula

Speed = Distance ÷ Time

Example

If a car travels 100 km in 2 hours: Speed = 100 km ÷ 2 h = 50 km/h.

What is Velocity?

Velocity is speed in a given direction. Unlike speed, it tells us both how fast and in which direction an object moves.
