  • Look at the title
  • Look at the images
  • What do you think the text might be about?

reading strategies:
  • summarizing: determine what is important and what isn't
  • asking questions: what do I  know? (predicting)
  • visualizing: create a picture in your head
  • scanning: to read a text quickly in order to find specific information e.g.: figures, names or numbers can be contrasted with 
  • skimming: reading quickly to get a general idea of meaning

  • Inferences: a guess that you make or an opinion that you form based on the information that you have:
  • Context-Clues: context clues are hints that an author gives to help define a difficult or unusual word. The clue may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
