Words ending on an -s sound
I watch -> he watches

Words ending on a consonant + -y
I carry -> he carries

We use the present simple when...
  • ...we talk about habits, routines, and timetables.
I eat breakfast every morning.
The bus leaves at 2 p.m.
  • ...we talk about facts or situations in the present.
Water boils at 100 °C.
I want to play video games.

When:
  1. When something is happening right now.
  2. When something is happening in the near future.

Signal words:
  1. Right now; now; at the moment; etc...
  2. Today; this evening; this afternoon; etc...

  1. Basic rule = walk -> walking
  2.  Words ending on -e = live -> living
  3. Words ending on -ie = lie -> lying
  4. Words ending on one -l = travel -> travelling
  5. Short words ending on a vowel + consonant = swim -> swimming
  6. Words ending on a vowel + consonant, with emphasis on the last syllable = begin -> beginning
