What is art?
One of Cambridge's (and CITO's for that matter) favourite topics to talk, write and read about is art. So, it's sensible to have (or develop) an informed opinion about it.

But what is art? Can you define it?

Do you have a favourite museum, work of art or artist?
  • Go on the internet and find your favourite museum/work of art/artist.
  • Show it to your neigbours (in groups of 3 or 4) and explain why this is your favourite. You could address:
Period, (its position in the) art movement, material, techniques, colours, emotional/intellectual impact, form, shapes, patterns, textures, themes, etc.

Choose one of the definitions of art and explain (using at least 80 words) why this definition is true/ untrue/incomplete/ absolutely spot-on, etc. Sustain your opinion and use examples. While you write, use at least 3 participle clauses (grammar p. 182). Underline these participle clauses in your text. Insert your text into your VEF.
