Year 2 - Semester 1 (learning objectives)
• You are able to distinguish between the stages of the Four Phase Model, their purposes and to assign appropriate activities.
• You are able to assess the English language level of pupils and design i+1 activities.
• You are able to use a variety of reading strategies and techniques to develop children's (media) literacy skills.
• You are able to explain your didactic choices based on relevant and current theories with regard to second language acquisition in primary education.

• You are able to develop children’s literacy by using film, books and music.

a. Analyse important features of second language acquisition for primary school pupils (onderbouw & bovenbouw)

b. Illustrate similarities between first and second language acquisition. Use at least three sources. Use APA style references to support your findings. (250 – 500 words)

Four-phase model lesson
a. Design and teach two task-based CLT lessons that fit the corresponding learning domain of T&I, MMB, MNT or KiC by using the lesson plan template as provided on Blackboard. Include music, video, books and/or other material that is appropriate for the learning domain.

b. The different phases of the Four Phase Model should become clear from the didactic choices you make in your lesson and should be explicitly explained.

c. Based on WIDA and ERK, you provide insight in your class’ level of English to ensure i+1.

d. Include feedback from your coach.

Assignment 3
Design a Kennisclip with voice over
In pairs: design a kennisclip (max. 3 minutes) with voice over in English using an online programme of your choice such as Powtoon, Doodly, Animaker or Prezi, PowerPoint etc. 
In the kennisclip you instruct fellow students on how a variety of reading strategies and techniques help develop children's English (media) literacy skills. 
Upload your kennisclip via YouTube and add the (private) link to your portfolio.

Hogeschooltaaltoets Engels B2 Test
Use any of the two chances provided during the exam weeks to take the online summative B2 English language test. Present your result in your file with a screenshot. (to be completed in year 3).

Optional Assignment 5
Speaking exam
Use the opportunity either in year 2 or 3 to complete your speaking exam which will be planned in two attempts throughout the year (to be completed in year 3). The topics are related to primary education and your role as a teacher. The setup of this exam will be explained and practiced during the lectures.

Assessment: Pecha Kucha
What is a 20x20 PechaKucha?
The PechaKucha 20x20 presentation format is a slide show of 20 images, each auto-advancing after 20 seconds. It’s non-stop and you've got 400 seconds to tell your story, with visuals guiding the way. PechaKucha was created in Japan in 2003 by renowned architechts, Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham. The word “PechaKucha” is Japanese for “chit chat.”
