Prefixes en Suffixes
  • Een prefix is een voorvoegsel wat je voor een woord zet. 
  • Er zijn veel verschillende prefixes,  in deze LessonUp kijken we naar twee prefixes: un en re
  • Suffixes komen achter een woord. In deze Lessonup kijken we naar vier suffixes: -er, -ful, -less en -ing
  • Prefixes en suffixes veranderen de betekenis van het woord.

  • A prefix changes the meaning of a word
  • In English you can use un as a prefix

  • able            unable: To not be able to do something
  • Example: She is unable to attend tomorrow's meeting

  • fill           refill: 
  • Example: I need to refill my waterbottle before we go, it's nearly empty.

Suffixes / Achtervoegsels
Komen achter het woord. 

Veranderen de betekenis van het woord.

Suffixes: ER
  • A suffix changes the meaning of a word
  • If you put the suffix ER at the end of a verb, you show a person's occupation or job. 

  • To paint               painter
  • To train                trainer
  • To teach              teacher

Suffixes: ful
  • If you put the suffix  FUL at the end of a word, you describe a characteristic (eigenschap) of something of someone. 

  • colour                  colourful
  • To use                  useful
  • Pain                      painful

  • If you put the suffix  LESS at the end of a word, it means without. 

  • fear                       fearless: Superman is a fearless man. 
  • hair                       hairless: That man has no hair, he is hairless.
  • help                      helpless: He was lost in de desert, he was                                                                totally helpless.

  • If you put the suffix  ing at the end of a word, to descibe a product or action

  • paint                     painting (schilderij)
  • build                     building
  • walk                      walking
