The Future

Er zijn in het Engels 4 manieren om de toekomende tijd te maken:

The Future - Present Simple

GEBRUIK JE ALLEEN ALS IETS VOLGENS EEN SCHEMA GEBEURD, THAT'S IT!

Voorbeeld:
The bus leaves at 9 AM.

The guided tours start in front of the shop at noon.

The Future - Will/ Shall

Will/ Shall gebruik je al iets in de toekomst gebeurt maar er nog geen concreet plan is, of als je een voorstel doet.

VB: I will compose a song in the future.

Shall gebruik je in vraagzinnen met I en we.

VB: Shall we go to the store?

The Future - to be + going to + hele WW

Je gebruikt to be + going to + hele werkwoord als je iets van van plan bent maar er nog geen concreet plan is.

VB: He is going to write a book this summer.

As soon as the lock down is lifted, I am going to visit the movies.

The Future - Present Continuous

Je gebruikt de present continuous (am/ are/ is + werkwoord + ing) als je zeker weet dat iets in de toekomst gaat gebeuren.

VB: We are seeing that movie tomorrow.

 

Jeff ________ (start) as an engineer next week on Thursday.

Samira ________ (visit) room 305 at 9 p.m. everyday.

She ________ (make) a trip to France next year.

________ (we - open) the door for her?

He ________ (think) about it in the future.

Als je beleefd vraagt of je naar het toilet mag, hoe vraag je dat dan?

1. Can I use the restroom, please?
2. Could I use the restroom, please?

Je geeft toestemming aan iemand in de beleefde vorm. Wat zou je dan zeggen?

1. You can stay up late.
2. You could stay up late.
3. You are allowed to stay up late.

Het is onwaarschijnlijk dat iets gebeurt. Welk woord gebruiken we dan?

1. can
2. could
3. may
4. might

Iets is noodzakelijk of belangrijk.

You must stick to the rules.  --> wetten/ regels/ bevelen (van iemand anders)

The Passive

Je gebruikt de passive als het niet belangrijk is wie of wat iets doet, maar wat er met iemand of iets gebeurd.

→ Je legt dus de nadruk op wat er gebeurd in plaats van op wie het doet. 

The Passive

Present Simple

The thief isn't caught by the police.
Is the thief caught by the police?

Past Simple

The thief was captured by the police yesterday.
