Definition of Powers
A power is an expression that represents repeated multiplication of the same factor. For example, 3^4 means 3 multiplied by itself 4 times.
Properties of Powers
Key properties include: Product of powers (a^m * a^n = a^(m+n)) and Power of a power ((a^m)^n = a^(m*n)).
Negative Exponents
A negative exponent indicates reciprocal. For example, a^-n = 1/a^n.
Calculation Priorities
Remember BODMAS/BIDMAS: Brackets, Orders (powers and roots), Division and Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.
Powers of 10
Powers of 10 are the basis for scientific notation. For example, 10^3 = 1000.
Scientific Notation
Scientific notation expresses numbers as a product of a number between 1 and 10 and a power of 10, e.g., 4.5 x 10^3.
