Look at the sentences, how do children do their housework?
  • Suzy makes her bed quickly
  • Toby sets the table slowly & carefully
  • Suzy tidies her room regularly

Adjective: describes a noun  (= zelfstandig naamwoord)
Adverb: describes a verb (=werkwoord) / an adjective/an adverb
(Het bijwoord geeft aan hoe iets gebeurd of hoe iemand iets doet) 

Peter is slow >>> Peter does things slowly
Anne is loud >>> Anne speaks loudly

Adverb 
kunnen iets zeggen over:
 een werkwoord: De scooter rijdt hard
een ander bijwoord: Hij heeft zijn test bijzonder slecht gemaakt.
een bijvoeglijk naamwoord: Er liggen erg zieke mensen in een ziekenhuis

How to form adverbs
  • bijvoegelijk naamwoord + lyloudly, slowly
  • als een woord eindigt op -y (happy), verander je deze in -i + ly (She dances happily)
  • Sommige adverbs veranderen niet van form: hard, fast, right, wrong, late
  • Adverb for good is well dit is een onregelmatige vorm

When you use the verbs to be, to look, to seem, to smell, to feel, to sound, to taste
we use ADJECTIVES instead of adverbs
Example:
- The bread tastes awful.
- The soup smells good.
