What you just did is called self reflection and it is done everywhere. People of all ages and jobs are often constantly self-reflecting. By knowing your personal qualities and pitfalls you can reduce stress and feel better in doing your school work.

Slide 8 - Slide

Qualities and pitfalls
Qualities and pitfalls are often much closer than we realise. Sometimes they are even two sides of the same coin.

Slide 9 - Slide

Can a quality also be/become a pitfall?
(discussion)
yes
no

Slide 10 - Poll

Make a comic

Your mentor will now hand out a piece of paper with a Comic format with four panels. First one of you will draw a problem/unhelpfull schoolsituation in the first two panels. For inspiration we have some problems/unhelpful situations on the board. Also when drawing it, think of your pitfalls/weaknesses.

Slide 11 - Slide

Make a comic
problems/unhelpful schoolsituations :
I haven't finished/forgot my homework
I forgot to bring my books
I'm not happy with my testresult for ...
I can't focus
I haven't planned my homework
other problems/unhelpfull schoolsituations...

discussion (1/2)

Now sit together in 4 groups as a class.
Share you comic strip and give each other tips and tops on your solutions to the school problems

Slide 14 - Slide

discussion (2/2)
This will work as follows.
  1.  First one of you will share you comic. They will tell everyone what their problem was and what their solution was.
  2.  Then one by one clockwise you will give a tip or a top!

Remember that Tops are what is done well and Tips are recommendations.

Slide 15 - Slide

reflection
Now that we have though about our qualities/strengths and pitfalls/weaknesses. I want you to think of a reflective question of the last period of school.

Slide 16 - Slide

reflection
So for example:
  • What do I think I am doing really well and what do I think I could be doing better in math?
  • Is my homework always done on time? Why yes or why no?
  • My last project for geography, am I happy with the result? Yes or no and why? What would I change next time I have to do a project like this?

Slide 17 - Slide

reflection

Now you are going to take your reflective question and turn it into a goal/objective for your ILP! Make sure the goal is specific and shows what steps you are going to take next period.

Slide 18 - Slide

What is your reflective question and how are you going to turn this into a goal/objective for your ILP?
