Ruskin Bond has written hundreds of short stories, essays, novellas and books for children.Most of his works are influenced by life in the hill stations at the foothills of the Himalayas, where he spent his childhood.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999 and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.He lives with his adopted family in Mussoorie.
