Introduction
This slide-show will show you how to proceed with your English programme. (A = language skills and B = literature) All stages/steps to be followed are clearly indicated and you will be informed both on what you should already have done/know (wks 12 and 13) and what is still to be done (wk 14)  in order to be well prepared for your language test which is set for next week.

What have you already done?
 A You have done some studying and practice in order to improve your language skills  (Gold B2 New edition)
B  You have continued reading your novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

  • You have familiarized yourselves with the vocabulary of unit 5 (tools/material: Wordlist and Quizlet)                                                                     
  • You studied grammar on expressions of quantity (in class at school) and the Passive Voice (at home by yourself). In order to do so, you used the grammar reference and exercises in your book and did some online exercises.

  • So far you have read 4 chapters of the novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and you did and checked the questions that go with those chapters.  (material to be found in last week's SOM)                                                                                       
  • You have gained some insight in the storyline, the                         characters and the historical (Victorian) setting which is explained to you in the handout that is in your possession.

-   learn how to write a review (study writing reference p. 172 CB)   -   practise writing (CB. p.56 ex. 1,3,4,5)                                                       -   do the review exercises on p.57 CB                                                     
- check your answers with the key (SOM 30/3)                                      -  do writing exercise 6 (CB p. 56) and hand this in (send/share) on Friday 3/4 at the latest.

What can you expect next week?
1. On Monday 6/4 you will be offered the opportunity to do a diagnostic test (SOM 6/4) to check whether your skills and knowledge are up to the mark in order to do well on the language test that you will be set on Tuesday 7/4.  Ideally, you will have fully prepared by learning the wordlist, studying the theory on grammar and writing and doing the exercises from your book and the online exercises  as indicated in the English programme for wks 12-14.  The diagnostic test will mainly focus on grammar and vocabulary, whereas the language test will also check on your  progress  on reading and use of English by including the usual Cambridge format exercises.

You will be asked to use your acquiresd skills and knowledge to  use  quantifiers and the passive correctly (this includes turning active sentences into passive ones and vice versa), to use appropriate unit 5 vocab, and to know the structure of a review (writing skills) to change sentence structures without changing the meaning of the sentence and to fill in gaps with the correct words..

  1. 2. On Tuesday 7/4 you will be set the language test in an online  setting, using a set time -frame of 45 minutes (or more if extra time). You will find further details in SOM 7/4
Make sure you will have acquired the necessary skills and studied all theory and vocabulary in order to do well on this test.
