Menstrual cycle
  • Is between 2-9 weeks (average 28 days=4 weeks).
  • it causes periods (shedding of uterus lining)
  • Women are fertile around and after the ovulation (egg cells lives ~24 hrs).
  • Hormone levels are constantly changing.

  • FSH- Follicle Stimulating Hormone
  • Oestrogen- plays a role in ovulation and stimulation thickening of uterus lining
  • LH - causes ovulation
  • Progesteron - maintains thick uterus lining

  • Fertilised egg produces HCG
  • HCG causes Progesteron to stay high
  • HCG is known as the pregnancy hormone, this is what you test for with a pregnancy test.
