This is a variant of the checkers played on a smaller playing field (8x8).
Thanks to this game students practice / test their knowledge of a number of historical characters.
The students should try to move the checkers with people's faces on their side of the playing field to the correct period square (purple) on the other side of the playing field.
The purple period square represents the period in which these people played their greatest role in history. It can happen that a figure has played an important role in several periods. In this case student have to then decide which period to choose.
When a student captures an opponent's checker, he/she must explain who it is and to which period it belongs.
As the game starts, the so-called keepers are on the purple period fields. These are transparent checkers intended to protect the period fields.
However, they are also regular checkers and can move and / or capture other checkers.
The moment a keeper enters a period space on the other side of the field, the player may exchange this checkers piece for a previously captured checker piece representing a person.
The player scores one point if a checker piece is played in the correct period space (opposite side). A period space remains 'open' to other checkers. So several checkers can stand on it.
The following rules always apply:
- You may only move forward 1 space diagonally.
- You can only hit diagonally.
- Hitting backwards is allowed.
- Capturing a checker is only possible if the space behind the piece being captured is empty.
