Slide 4 - Open question

What are we learning today?
Today we will be learning:
Why your body needs to respirate.
What you need for respiration/combustion.
What is released during respiration/combustion.

Slide 5 - Slide

Respiraton and combustion
Combustion means burning something and releasing energy. For combustion to take place, it needs fuel, oxygen and energy. Combustion also takes place in our body, where it is called respiration

Slide 6 - Slide

Why respirate?
Your body consist of a lot of cells, which all need energy to live. It will get this energy in the form of food, where energy is stored. This food will respirate in the mitchondria, and energy is released. Cells that need a lot of energy have a lot of mitochondria, and vice versa.

Slide 7 - Slide

Why respirate?
This primary type of fuel for your cells is glucose. Glucose is the building block for all sugars and carbonhydrates (koolhydraten).

What are the types of foods that have a lot of carbonhydrated?

Slide 8 - Slide

Respiration
When you are very active you need a lot of energy, when you are not that active you don't need as much.

Your body always needs a minimum amount of energy for necesarry processes.

Slide 9 - Slide

What is released during respiration?
Just like with any other metabolic processes, waste product are also made during respiration: carbondioxide and water
Which organisms use these two waste products?

Slide 10 - Slide

Homework
Start working on the exercises of paragraph 1.2, this is homework for the next lesson.
