A noun can be countable and uncountable 

countable nouns you can count 
3 oranges or a few  chairs.
 
uncountable nouns are a little more vague, concepts
you can have so much milk or very little patience

few/little say if there isn't a lot

much/little are for uncountable words
many/few are for countable words

a lot of/lots of can always be used
