Types of articles

There are a lot of different types of articles, but you need to now these:

* Feature article

* Editorial

* Interview

* Obituary

* Review

* Letter to the editor

* Opinion column

Feature article

• Front page
• Longer
• purpose = to inform
• Short paragraphs
• Images support topic of article

Editorial

• purpose = to analyse/comment on current issue
• provokes debate/discussion
• opinions
• a lot of text, hardly any images

Interview

• Not a Q&A session
• Lots of quotes
• Paragraphs per topic
• Highlighted quotes
• Images of the person being interviewed

Obituary

• Mentions who passed away (who, when, where, etc)
• Reflection of life
• Tone is sombre yet has a positive undertone
• Images of deceased in better times 

Review

• Book or film
• General info on book/film
• purpose = to advertise
• Opinionated piece
• Rating
• Images of book/film (posters used to advertise)

Letter to the editor

• Dear Sir,
• Reaction to an article (mention it!)
• Be concise and have focus
• Give your opinion/reaction
• Short, in paragraphs
• End with name
• No images

Opinion column

• purpose = to pursuade
• Opinion on anything
• short paragraphs
• no images

Book report

For your book report you need to:

* write 4 different types of articles,

* display you understand the differences in your writing and layout,

* be creative!
