Digestive
B
Respiratory

Slide 12 - Quiz

The central nervous system (CNS)

Slide 13 - Slide

The central nervous system is divided into two major parts: the brain and the spinal cord.
The Peripheral nervous system

Slide 14 - Slide

Slide 15 - Video

Spinal cord
The nerves connect the central nervous system to all parts of the body.

Impulses are passed to the brain through nerves in the spinal cord. The spinal cord starts at the brain and ends in the lumbar vertebrae in the lower back.

Slide 16 - Slide

How does the nervous system work?
Notes:
Sensory cell receive stimulus from outside (for example chocolate)
Sensory cells                              = impulses

Slide 17 - Slide

The brain
Cerebrum: processes impulses  + memories

Cerebellum: coordinates your movements + maintains balance.

Brain stem: connects brain to spinal cord + automatic functions.

Scan the chapter
Read paragraph 5.8
Make a list of all the new (difficult) biology words in the paragraph and write down their meaning.

Slide 22 - Slide

Elevator pitch
You'll have to give a one minute speech about the nervous system with all of the new words.
Practice with your neighbor.
3 students will be randomly selected to give the speech.
