  • Als je wilt zeggen dat iets mag of niet mag (can't / cannot)

  • Bijvoorbeeld:
  • You can borrow my pen
  • You can't use my bike because I need it myself

  • 'Could' is altijd beleefder dan 'can'.

  • Je gebruikt 'be allowed to' als je wilt zeggen dat iets volgens de regels mag of niet mag.
  •  Dat kunnen wetten zijn, maar bijvoorbeeld ook schoolregels of spelregels.
  • Het werkwoord 'be' bestaat uit de vormen: am, are, is.

  • Dus:
  • I am (not) allowed to chew gum in class.
  • You are(n't) allowed to touch the ball with your hands.
  • He, she, it is(n't) allowed to drive too fast.
